About

Darren Kenny is a gold medal winning, world record holding member of the GB Paralympic and David Mellor Cycles Teams. When not racing, he can be found training in the New Forest with his young son.

At 18, an accident during the 1988 Junior Tour of Ireland cut short his cycling career. He began racing again in 2000, primarily as a means to keep fit. After winning the national disabled Circuit Champs and a silver medal on the track at Manchester he was invited to join Team GB. At the Paralympics in Athens he won 2 Gold medals, a silver and broke the 1km time trial world record. He currently holds all 5 track world records for his class.

She can't quite grasp the fact that I was an old school friend of yours!
I'll be looking out for you in the other events!
Good Luck

Dear Darren:

Capital to Coast Cycle Challenge – 28 June 2009 – Endorsement request

Norwood, a leading UK charity providing services for children, families and adults with social difficulties and learning disabilities from the Jewish Community and beyond, will be staging the Capital to Coast Cycle Challenge on 28 June between London and Hove event.

This is the 14th year that we have organised the Challenge. In 2008, 1500 cyclists took part, raising over £300,000 for beneficiary charities, Norwood, Sparks, Down’s Syndrome Association and Southern FM’s Help A Local Child.

We would be delighted if you would be so kind as to provide us with a quote that we could use to promote this event. Your support as an Olympian would help us to inspire even more participants to take part in the Challenge next year.

I look forward to hearing from you soon. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me on 020 8420 6900 or at pressoffice@norwood.org.uk. For more information about Norwood, please go to www.norwood.org.uk.

Yours faithfully,

HI Darren,
Great to see you on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire & well done for selecting the Piam Brown Ward as your charity. I work for Wessex Cancer Trust based in Southampton. We raise funds for the PBW, and help with the annual Fire Engine Day and the recent trip in association with Saints FC & Flybe on a flight around the local area for the children. We also fund the shared care nurse scheme which provides 3-monthly placement for nurses on the ward. They then return to their own hospitals in the region armed with their knowledge & experience. We have recently launched our Youth Campaign, with our young 19yr old ambassador, Matt Arding, taking part in the London Marathon in April. We would love to have you as another of our highly valued ambassadors to help promote the work of the Trust. We cover the whole of the Wessex region - Dorset, Hampshire, Wiltshire, Isle of Wight and the Channel Islands. If you think you might be able to help please contact me. We were all so excited to see you in the spotlight and to bring the Piam Brown Ward to the forefront.

Congratulations from us all on your tremendous achievements in the Beijing Olympics & well done on your New Year's Honour.

Kind regards
Kim Lawford
Deputy to Chief Executive
Wessex Cancer Trust

Hi Darren.

My name is Simon Gibson, I am a local councillor for Verwood.
I had the pleasure of sitting with you and your family during Verwoods Mayorial civic day a few months ago. I mentioned to you about the proposed multi use games area that I was involved in setting up.
We have produced a poster advertising the project ahead of our public consultation at the start of February, we would love to have you endorsement for such a project ahead of the consultation and on the poster.
Please could you or a representative email me?
Many thanks
Simon

Hi Darren

First off all, congratulations winning 4 gold, and one silver at the paralympic games in Beijing. It is really a great achievement. Secound off all, you would do me a big favour, if you would try to contact me. I am your relative in Denmark. Hope you remember Uncle Tom´s daughter. I really hope to hear from you some day.
Many thanks

Jeanette

Dear Darren

We have been wanting to get in touch with you and have finally managed it. First of all we would like to congratulate you on your O.B.E. which you thoroughly deserve.

We would like to thank you for your help in switching on our Christmas lights and giving us your support. We really appreciate you coming and bringing all your medals, which made it a very special night for all the children (and the grown-ups!). We had the Mayor here last week to collect the cheque for £5,375 on behalf of Julia's House to help with all their good work.

We wish you all the luck with your world record one hour attempt in Copenhagen on the 14th - we'll be thinking of you, but we will be in Cuba then!

Hope your training goes well for 2012.

All the best to you and your family and hope we meet up again one of these days.

Brenda and Roger (Santa)

Hi Darren,

You may remember me from the Sports Journalist Awards (sat next to you) the Fundraising Officer from Disability Sport Events...?

I have a bone to pick with you. I watched you on Who Wants To Be a Millionaire. Waited with baited breath, but you did not choose DSE as one of your charities. Keep us in mind in the future!

Hope all is well with you. Looks like you are getting quite a bit of media coverage, so you must be doing well.

Lucy

Hi Darren

Best of luck for the hour attempt on Saturday. We can't believe you are doing another one! Take care and all the best to Ziggy and Brandon too.

Lynne & Dan

Unfortunately Darren had already recorded Who Wants To Be a Millionaire before the Sports Journalist Awards.

Darren
I am a Head of PE at St Edmund's Girls School in Salisbury.

I am desperate for him to be our guest speaker at our sports presentation evening on Monday 15th June, 7.00pm - 8.30pm (just a few weeks!). At St Edmund's Girls School, Salisbury, SP1 1RD. Would need you to give a brief synopsis of your career, highlights, a motivating moment and then present the sports personality key awards! I know this is relatively short notice - but would be so chuffed if we managed to you as our guest! I look forward to hearing from you, many thanks, Amie Harding.

Dear Darren Kenny

On 10th March 2010 approximately 100 national university students will be coming to Dorset for an academic conference organised by Bournemouth University Students on behalf of The HLST Olympic Interest Group.

HLST are a Subject Centre known as the Higher Education Academy Network for Hospitality, Leisure, Sport and Tourism. Subject areas they cover also include Recreation and Events Management. They aim to celebrate and raise the status of teaching by operating a professional and sustainable working environment that can be responsive to changing priorities and needs.

The purpose of this conference is to educate university students on the Olympics and how there they can utilise their degree to become involved in 2012 before, during and after. We would like to inspire students and give them an active interest in how the Olympics can affect them and how they can get involved.

We would like to invite you to be a speaker at our event. The event will be held at Bournemouth University, we will be able to cover your expenses. The areas we would like you to cover is sharing your experiences at the Olympics, how you got into the Olympics, thoughts on how you felt the various Olympics games were organized the good and the bad, as we feel athletes would have a different experience to volunteers and spectators.

Yours Sincerely Emma Needham
